We are thrilled to share highlights from the 19th Annual Meeting of the Environment for Development (EfD) Initiative, held from October 16–19, 2025. Set against the vibrant backdrop of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, the event was expertly organized by EfD-Tanzania, the University of Dar es Salaam School of Economics (UDSoE), and the EfD Global Hub.
The African Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (AFAERE) was well-represented by our leadership team, contributing to critical dialogues on the future of environmental economics and climate policy in Africa.
Leading the Conversation on African Climate
A major highlight of the conference was the keynote address delivered by AFAERE President, Precious. Her presentation on African Climate Dynamics provided a comprehensive “state of the art” overview of the region’s climate challenges and opportunities. The session was highly interactive, sparking productive debates on the evolving environmental landscape across the continent.
Showcasing Progress and Research
Beyond the keynote, AFAERE held a dedicated session to update the international community on our organizational progress and strategic goals.
-
President Precious led the primary presentation on expected outcomes for the association.
-
Vice President Tony and Secretary General Selamawit presented insightful research and updates during the conference sessions.
-
The AFAERE Council and several past presidents were also in attendance, reinforcing our commitment to the EfD’s mission.
A Spirit of Collaboration
The meeting was more than just a series of presentations; it was a testament to the power of partnership. We left the conference feeling energized by the “interactive and productive” atmosphere that defined every session.
